Out of the Vault: Cloudburst and flood wash out Lexington

Many readers of the East Oregonian are fans of our “Days Gone By” feature, where we feature short synopses of stories from the EO archives from 25, 50 and 100 years ago. I took over the job of researching this feature when I joined the EO staff in 2007, and it has become one of my favorite parts of the job. I find the history of Eastern Oregon fascinating, and we are fortunate to have such a resource stored in the company’s vault (and at the Pendleton Public Library on microfilm) for reference.

While researching “Days,” I often find stories that are really interesting but are either not local or too long to condense into four or five sentences. I pitched the idea of exploring some of these other stories and “Out of the Vault” was born.
